Manage printers from the app

Add and manage your receipt printers and turn on automatic printing from the app.

Published June 2, 2026

If you take orders on the tablet at the counter, it's often easiest to set up your receipt printers right there in the app. The MenuDock app shows the same printer list as the web admin, so a printer you add on the tablet appears in both places. This article covers adding a printer, the switches on each one, and turning automatic printing on.

Printers belong to the branch you're working on. Check the branch in the app bar if you run more than one.

Open the Printers screen

  1. Open the Settings tab from the bottom navigation.
  2. Tap Printers.

You'll see a list of your receipt printers. Each row shows the printer's Name and IP address, an Active switch, and an Auto Print switch. There's also a master Auto Print switch in the app bar at the top.

The Printers screen in the mobile app: a master Auto Print switch in the app bar, a list of printer rows each with Name, IP, Active and Auto Print switches, and an Add Printer button.

Add a printer

  1. Tap Add Printer.
  2. Fill in the form:
Field What to enter
Name A label for staff, for example "Kitchen" or "Counter"
IP Address The printer's address on your network, for example 192.168.1.50
Active Whether this printer is in use
Auto Print Whether this printer prints automatically on a new order
  1. Tap OK to save.

You can't add two printers with the same IP address at the same branch. Receipt printers connect over the network on the standard thermal-printer port, so the IP address is all you need.

Edit, test or remove a printer

Each printer row gives you a test print, an edit option, and a delete option. Use Edit to change the name, IP or switches; tap Save when you're done. Use the test print to check a printer is reachable before a busy service. To take a printer out of use without losing its settings, switch Active off rather than deleting it.

Turn on automatic printing

Adding a printer doesn't start auto-printing on its own. Three things have to line up:

  1. The Auto Print master switch in the app bar is on.
  2. The printer's own Active switch is on.
  3. The printer's own Auto Print switch is on.

When all three are set, accepting a new order sends the receipt to every printer that matches. Leave a printer's Auto Print off if you only want to use it for the occasional manual reprint.

When to change this

  • Add one printer per place a ticket needs to land: kitchen, bar, counter.
  • Switch a printer to Active off while it's down for repair, then back on when it's fixed.
  • These are the same printers as the web admin, so set them up wherever is handiest. The list stays in sync either way. See Printers and receipt printing for the web side.

If receipts aren't printing automatically, run through the three switches above: the app-bar master switch, the printer's Active, and its Auto Print.
