Checkout and tipping settings

Control tipping at checkout: turn it on, set preset percentages and allow a custom amount.

Published June 2, 2026

The Checkout settings page controls a few things a customer sees on the payment step: whether they can leave a tip, whether a promo code field shows, and which payment methods are on offer. This article focuses on the tipping controls, with a quick word on the rest. Tipping is set once for the whole store, while payment methods are per location.

Open Checkout settings

In the sidebar, open Settings → Checkout.

The Checkout Settings page showing the Tipping section with the Enable tipping toggle, the Preset percentages field and the Allow custom amount toggle.

Tipping

The Tipping section sits at the top.

  1. Switch on Enable tipping. With it off, the tip section is hidden from checkout entirely.
  2. Fill in Preset percentages: the tip buttons a customer can tap, as a comma-separated list, for example 10, 15, 20. Each value must be a whole percentage between 1 and 100. Leave it blank to show only the "No tip" and custom options.
  3. Decide on Allow custom amount. When on, the customer gets a "Custom" option to type their own tip. When off, they can only pick a preset.
  4. Press Save changes.

One rule keeps the tip selector usable: if tipping is on, you must either set at least one preset or allow a custom amount. Turn both off and the form won't save, since the customer would have nothing to tap. The tip is added on top of the order total and is calculated against the items, not the delivery fee.

The other Checkout settings

The same page holds a few more controls, covered in their own articles:

  • Payment methods — toggle Card, PayPal and Cash for each location. At least one must stay on. A method whose provider isn't connected stays locked.
  • Promo codes — show or hide the promo code field at checkout. Hiding it doesn't delete your codes.
  • Cancellations — choose whether cancelling an order refunds the customer automatically.

When to change this

  • Turn tipping on if your customers are used to tipping, common for delivery and table-style service.
  • Pick presets that match your average order. For smaller baskets, percentages work well; for larger ones, some venues prefer a custom amount only.
  • Turn tipping off entirely if it doesn't fit your service and you'd rather keep checkout simple.

Need a hand?

If the tip selector doesn't appear on your storefront, check Enable tipping is on and that you've either set a preset or allowed custom amounts, since both being empty leaves nothing to show. Email support@menudock.co.uk with your store name if it still won't appear.
