The MenuDock restaurant app pings you the moment a new order comes in, so a phone or tablet in the kitchen can let staff know without anyone watching the screen. The notification arrives whether the app is open, in the background, or fully closed. This article covers how to allow notifications, how they behave, and what to do if they stop.
Allowing notifications on first launch
The first time you open the app after signing in, your phone asks whether MenuDock can send you notifications. Tap Allow. That's the only setup there is. The app then registers the device so new-order alerts can reach it, even when the app isn't open.
There's no notifications screen inside the app to turn this on or off. Permission is handled by your phone's own settings, so if you ever need to change it, that's where you go (more on that below).
If you tap "Don't allow" by mistake on first launch, the app can't ask again on its own. You'll need to switch notifications back on in your phone's settings.
Foreground versus background
How the alert shows up depends on whether you're looking at the app:
- App open (foreground): a notification appears on a "New orders" channel, and the live orders list updates on its own at the same time. You don't need to refresh.
- App in the background or closed: your phone shows the notification on the lock screen or in the notification tray, the same as any other app. Tap it to open MenuDock on the order.
Either way, the order is waiting for you on the Orders tab when you open the app. See Live orders for how the order stages work.
If notifications stop arriving
If alerts go quiet, the cause is almost always a permission that's been switched off, or a phone setting that's holding notifications back. Check your phone:
- iPhone and iPad: open Settings, scroll to the MenuDock app, tap Notifications, and make sure Allow Notifications is on. Check that sounds and banners are enabled too.
- Android: open Settings, go to Apps, find MenuDock, tap Notifications, and make sure they're allowed. Check the "New orders" channel in particular.
A few other things worth ruling out: battery-saver or "deep sleep" modes on Android can delay notifications, so exclude MenuDock from battery optimisation if orders arrive late. A Do Not Disturb schedule will mute alerts during its hours. And if the device has been signed out, sign back in so it re-registers for notifications.
For an audible alert as well as the on-screen one, set a sound alert inside the app.
