Sound alerts for new orders

Choose the alert sound that plays when a new order comes in (set per device).

Published June 2, 2026

A sound alert plays on the device when a new order arrives, so staff hear it across a busy kitchen without watching the screen. You pick the sound from the app, and the choice is saved on that device. This article covers choosing a sound and what "device-local" means in practice.

Choose a sound

  1. Open the Settings tab.
  2. Tap Order Sounds.
  3. You'll see a list of options: No Sound, then Sound 1 through Sound 6, each with a radio button.
  4. Tap one. It plays straight away as a preview and saves at the same time, so you hear what you're choosing and there's no separate save button.

The Order Sounds screen on the app, listing No Sound and Sound 1 to Sound 6 with radio buttons, the current choice selected.

The selected sound then plays whenever a new order comes in. To turn the sound off but keep the on-screen alerts, choose No Sound.

A sound is per device, not per account

This setting is stored on the phone or tablet you set it on. It doesn't sync to your other devices or to the web admin. So:

  • Each device can have its own sound, or no sound at all.
  • A new tablet starts with the default and you set its sound separately.
  • Changing the sound on one device leaves your other devices as they were.

This is different from most settings on the app, which save to your account and apply everywhere. The sound alert and the app language are the two that live on the device. The new-order push notification is separate again and comes from your phone's own settings.

When to change this

A few cases where it's worth picking a sound deliberately:

  • Loud kitchen: choose one of the more distinct sounds so it cuts through.
  • Front-of-house tablet: a quieter sound, or No Sound if the screen is already in view.
  • Shared device that's also used elsewhere: set the sound to suit whoever is on shift.

The sound only plays when the app is running. For an alert when the app is closed, you also need push notifications allowed on the device.
