Adding products one at a time is fine for a small menu. For a big one, or when you're moving a menu over from a spreadsheet, it's quicker to work in bulk. MenuDock can export your whole menu to a CSV and import products from one. This article covers both.
Bulk import and export are available on the Pro and Business plans. On Starter the Import / Export button doesn't appear.
Export your menu
- Open Catalog → Product and press Import / Export.
- Under Export current menu, press Download CSV.
You get a CSV with every product, including price, stock and allergens, that opens straight in Excel or Google Sheets. It's handy as a backup, for bulk-editing prices, or as a starting point for an import.

Import products
- In the same dialog, under Import from CSV, press Download empty template if you don't already have a file in the right shape. The template has the column headers and one example row to follow.
- Fill in your products in the spreadsheet, then save it as CSV (up to 2 MB, UTF-8).
- Press Click to choose a CSV file and pick your file.
- Review the preview, then apply it.
How matching works
When you import, MenuDock decides whether each row is a new product or an update to an existing one. It matches existing products by SKU first, then by name. So if a row's SKU matches a product you already have, that product is updated rather than duplicated. Give your products SKUs if you plan to re-import, since it's the most reliable match.
Products synced from a POS system are skipped on import. You manage those in the POS, not here. See POS-synced products.
The preview comes first
Nothing changes the moment you upload. The import runs a preview, a dry run, that shows how many rows will be created, updated and skipped, lists any new categories it would create, and flags rows with errors. You only commit the changes by pressing Apply. If the numbers look wrong, close the dialog and fix your file, no harm done.
After applying, you get a summary of how many products were created, updated and skipped, so you can confirm the import did what you expected.

Need a hand?
Import preview showing errors on some rows? The message names the problem row by row, usually a missing price or a malformed value, so fix those in the spreadsheet and upload again. Make sure the file is saved as UTF-8 CSV and under 2 MB. Still stuck? Email support@menudock.co.uk with your store name and the CSV attached.
