Stock status controls whether customers can order an item right now. It's the setting you reach for when the kitchen runs out of something mid-service, or when a dish is off the menu for a while. There are three values, and they behave differently on your storefront.
The three statuses
- Available: the normal state. The item shows on your menu and customers can order it.
- Sold out: the item still shows on the menu, so customers can see it's something you do, but they can't add it to the basket. Sold-out items also drop below the available ones in their category. Use this for "we've run out tonight".
- Unavailable: the item is removed from the storefront menu completely. Customers don't see it at all. Use this for something off the menu for longer, like a seasonal special that's finished.
The quick rule: Sold out is visible but un-orderable, Unavailable is hidden.
Flip it fast from the products list
During a busy service you don't want to open each product. The Products page has a Stock column, and clicking the badge flips an item between Available and Sold out in one tap. The change saves instantly, without reloading the page.

Stock per variant
If a product has variants, stock status lives on each variant rather than the product as a whole. You set it from the Variants tab, so the Large can be sold out while Small and Medium keep selling. See Product variants.
Stock per location
On the Business plan, you can override stock status for a single branch from a product's Location overrides tab. That lets one branch mark a dish sold out without affecting the others. See Location overrides.
From the mobile app
Your staff don't need the web admin for this. The MenuDock mobile app can mark items sold out or available on the floor, which is usually where you'll do it during service. See Update product status on mobile.

Marked something sold out but customers can still order it? Give the storefront a moment and refresh, and check you didn't change it on a different location's menu. If an item vanished from the storefront unexpectedly, it's probably set to Unavailable rather than Sold out. Still stuck? Email support@menudock.co.uk with your store name and the product name.
