Modifier groups

Build reusable option sets such as toppings and extras, then attach them to products.

Modifier groups are reusable sets of options you attach to products: toppings, extras, sauces, or a required choice like cook temperature. Build a group once, then attach it to as many products as you like. This article covers creating a group and attaching it to a product.

Modifier options carry a price change on top of the product (for example "Bacon +£1.50"). If you instead need versions of the product that each have their own base price, like pizza sizes, use Product variants.

Create a modifier group

  1. Open Catalog → Modifier Groups. This lists every group you've built, with its required status, selection range and option count.
  2. Press Add modifier group.
  3. Give it a Group name (this shows to customers above the options, for example "Toppings").
  4. Set the Selection Rules and add your Options, each with its own price.
  5. Press Save changes.

Selection rules

The rules decide how many options a customer can or must pick.

  • Min selections and Max selections: the range a customer is allowed. Set min to 1 to force a choice; set max to cap how many extras they can stack.
  • Optional: when this is on, the customer can skip the group entirely. Switch it off (or set min to 1) to make the group required. The list shows each group as Required or Optional so you can see at a glance.
  • Multi-add (quantity per option): lets a customer add the same option more than once, say two portions of bacon. The min and max then count the total quantity across all options.

Each option has a name and a price, for example "Extra cheese +£1.00". Use Add option to add more, and the arrows to put them in the order customers should see.

Attach a group to a product

A group does nothing until it's attached to a product.

  1. Open the product from Catalog → Product and select the Modifiers tab.
  2. Under Add an existing group, press + Attach next to the group you want. It moves up into Attached modifier groups.
  3. Use the Move up and Move down arrows to set the order customers see them in.
  4. Remove takes a group off this product without deleting the group itself.

Need a group that doesn't exist yet? + New group opens the group editor so you can build one without losing your place.

Reuse across products

Because groups are reusable, "Burger extras" can sit on every burger, and editing the group once updates all of them. That's the point of building them centrally rather than re-typing the same options on each product. Removing a group from one product leaves it attached to the others.

Attached a group but customers can't see the options? Check the product is visible on the storefront and that the group has at least one option.
