The storefront allergens page

How the Allergy Information page works and how per-product allergens show up for customers.

Published June 2, 2026

Customers care about allergens, and UK food law expects you to make the information available. MenuDock handles this in two ways: a dedicated Allergy Information page in your footer, and per-product allergen data that shows on each item. This article explains both and how they differ.

The /allergens page is a content page

The page linked as Allergy Information in your footer (at /allergens) is one of your content pages. It holds a general allergy statement, not an automatic list of which dish contains what. It's best to write your own statement here rather than rely on a default. To do that:

  1. In the sidebar, open Settings → Content Pages.
  2. Switch to the Allergy Information tab.
  3. Choose Customize, write your statement, and press Save changes.

A good statement covers how customers should ask about allergens, how you handle cross-contamination, and who to speak to in your venue. The page itself doesn't pull from your menu, so it won't go out of date when you change a dish.

Per-product allergen data

The item-by-item detail comes from each product's Allergens & Dietary field, which you set when you add or edit a product. MenuDock supports the 14 UK Food Safety Act allergens plus dietary tags (Vegetarian, Vegan, Gluten free, Halal, Kosher). See Add a product for how to fill it in.

That data flows straight to the storefront. When a customer opens a product, the item shows its dietary badges and a "Contains:" line listing its allergens, followed by a short disclaimer asking them to check the allergen information and to contact you directly before ordering if they have a severe allergy.

The allergen filter on the menu

Because each product carries its allergens, the storefront menu offers a Filter by allergen control. A customer can pick the allergens they need to avoid, and the menu hides any item that contains them, showing a small note of how many were hidden. The filter only lists allergens that actually appear on your menu, so it stays relevant to what you sell.

The more carefully you tag each product's Allergens & Dietary field, the more useful this filter is. Items with no allergen data are treated as having none, so they always pass the filter.

When to change this

  • Edit the Allergy Information content page when your general policy or contact changes.
  • Update a product's allergens whenever a recipe or supplier changes. That keeps the "Contains:" line and the allergen filter accurate, which is what customers rely on at the point of ordering.

A product's allergens aren't showing on the storefront? Open the product, check its Allergens & Dietary field is filled in, and save. If the allergen filter is missing a tag you expect, confirm at least one visible product carries it. Still off? Email support@menudock.co.uk with your store name and the product name.
