If you open a part of the admin panel and find it greyed out with an "upgrade" note instead of the controls you expected, you've hit a feature that your current plan doesn't include. Nothing is broken. The feature is built and waiting; it just sits on a higher plan. This article explains what the message means and how to switch it on.
What you'll see
Where a feature is locked, MenuDock replaces its controls with a small dashed box that reads:
Feature locked Upgrade your plan to unlock
feature_name.
The feature_name part is a short internal label for the locked thing, such as custom_domain, reporting or pos_integrations. You don't need to do anything with that label; it's there so you know which feature the box is standing in for.
You'll only ever see this on a plan that's missing the feature. On Business, where everything is included, nothing is locked.
Why it's locked
Each plan includes a set of features, and the higher the plan the more it includes. When the panel can tell your plan doesn't cover a feature, it shows the locked box instead of the live controls rather than letting you set something up that wouldn't work. Common ones:
- Custom domain: Pro and Business.
- Apple Pay and Google Pay: Pro and Business.
- Reporting and CSV export: Pro and Business.
- POS integrations, multiple locations, branded email templates and priority support: Business only.

How to turn it on
- Check which plan the feature needs in the plan comparison.
- Go to Subscription in the admin sidebar.
- Press Change plan and pick the plan that includes it.
- Confirm. Upgrades take effect as soon as your payment clears, and the locked box is replaced by the real controls straight away.
Step-by-step in Upgrade or downgrade your plan.
After you upgrade
The feature appears immediately and any settings you'd saved before (for instance reporting filters from a previous spell on Pro) come back rather than starting blank. The one thing an upgrade doesn't recreate is a custom domain you'd removed on an earlier downgrade. You add that again from the domain settings. The details are in What happens when you change plan.
If it's locked but you think your plan includes it
A couple of things can cause this:
- A plan change hasn't applied yet. A downgrade only takes effect at the end of your paid period, so a feature you're losing stays on until then; an upgrade that hasn't finished paying won't have switched on yet. Check the status on the Subscription page.
- The feature needs something else too. Multiple locations, for example, needs Business and an actual second branch added before the location controls do anything.
If your plan genuinely includes the feature and it's still locked, that's worth reporting.
