What happens when you change plan

What unlocks or locks when you change plan, and what happens to your data on a downgrade.

Published June 2, 2026

Moving between plans changes which features you can use, and in a few cases it changes your live data too. This article spells out exactly what unlocks when you go up, what locks when you come down, and what happens to the things you've already set up. Read it before you confirm a downgrade.

The short version: your menu, orders, customers and settings are never deleted by a plan change. What changes is which features are switched on, and a small number of plan-specific things (a custom domain, extra locations) that genuinely can't run on a lower plan.

Which features sit on which plan

Feature Starter Pro Business
Branded storefront, unlimited menu, card payments Yes Yes Yes
Custom storefront themes Yes Yes Yes
Reporting and CSV export No Yes Yes
Custom domain (yourrestaurant.com) No Yes Yes
Apple Pay / Google Pay at checkout No Yes Yes
POS integrations (Square, EposNow) No No Yes
Multiple locations (3 included) No No Yes
Priority support No No Yes

Card payments, an unlimited menu and your choice of storefront theme are on every plan, so taking orders and branding your store never depend on your tier. Your own domain, wallet payments and reporting arrive on Pro. POS connections and multiple locations are Business only.

The plan window comparing the three plans — Starter at £25 / month, Pro at £49 / month and Business at £99 / month — each with its price and a list of what's included.

When you upgrade

Upgrading is the easy direction. The features for the higher plan switch on as soon as your payment clears, and anything that was paused on the way down comes back:

  • Locations you had deactivated on a lower plan are switched back on, up to your new plan's limit.
  • A POS connection that was paused is re-enabled.
  • Stripe Connect payouts resume.
  • Apple Pay and Google Pay are re-enabled at checkout.
  • Reporting and CSV export simply become available again.

The one exception is a custom domain. If you'd removed it on a downgrade, upgrading doesn't recreate it. You add it again from the domain settings. See Custom domain setup.

When you downgrade

A downgrade only takes effect at the end of your current paid period, so you keep everything until then. When it does apply, MenuDock tidies up the features your new plan no longer includes. Here's what happens to each, because it isn't all the same:

What you're losing What actually happens
Custom domain Removed permanently. The domain is detached from your account and you'd have to set it up from scratch to use it again. Customers fall back to your free .menudock.co.uk address.
Extra locations Deactivated, data kept. Locations beyond your new plan's limit are switched off. Their menus and settings are preserved and reactivate if you upgrade again.
POS integration Paused, credentials kept. Syncing stops, but your connection details are saved, so it resumes on a later upgrade.
Stripe Connect payouts Paused, account kept. Your connected account isn't deleted.
Apple Pay / Google Pay Disabled at checkout.
Reporting, CSV export, priority support Switched off. Nothing to clean up; they return on upgrade.

Before any downgrade goes through, MenuDock shows you a confirmation window listing exactly which of these apply to your move, so there are no surprises. The custom-domain removal is the one to weigh carefully, since it's the only change that can't simply be undone.

What never changes

No plan change touches:

  • Your menu: categories, products, variants, modifiers, prices.
  • Your past and current orders.
  • Your customer list and their order history.
  • Your business details, opening hours and other settings.
  • Your storefront theme and logo — theme selection is on every plan, so a downgrade never changes how your store looks.

Downgrading hides features; it doesn't wipe your restaurant. And if you cancel altogether, the same holds: your data waits for you. See Reactivate a cancelled subscription.
