Add your first product

Add your first menu item: name, price, category, image and allergens.

Published June 2, 2026

A menu with at least one product is the second of the two things you need before going live (the first being a payment provider). This article gets one item onto your menu. Once you're comfortable, the full product guide covers variants, modifiers and the rest.

Open the new product form

In the admin panel, go to Catalog → Product, then press Add product. (The onboarding checklist's "Add your menu" step drops you here too.)

The Add new product form with General Information filled in: a product name, description, category and price, alongside the image upload and storefront visibility toggle.

Fill in the details

Only two fields are required, the name and the price. The rest are there to make the item look right on your storefront.

  • Product name (required): what customers see, for example "Margherita Pizza".
  • Description: a short line about the item.
  • Category: which menu section it sits under. Pick an existing one, or choose + Add a new category to create one without leaving the page.
  • Price (required): in your store's currency, which you set in Business settings.
  • SKU: optional, used to match the product with a POS system like Square. Leave it blank if you don't use one.

You can also tick any allergens (the 14 UK Food Safety allergens) and dietary tags like vegetarian or vegan, add a product image (JPG, PNG or WebP), and use the Visible on storefront toggle to publish or hide the item. None of these are required to save, so you can come back to them.

When you're done, press Add product. It appears on your storefront straight away, under its category.

About categories

Every product lives under a category (or "No category"). If your menu is empty, create your sections first under Catalog → Category, or just use + Add a new category inside the product form. Create categories goes into ordering and managing them.

Adding options later

Sizes, extras and add-ons aren't on this first form. You add those after creating the product, from its edit screen, using variants and modifier groups. See Product variants and Modifier groups when you need them.
