Take payments with PayPal

Add PayPal alongside your card provider so customers can pay with their PayPal balance or card.

Published June 2, 2026

PayPal works differently from Stripe and Square. It is not your card provider; it sits alongside whichever card provider you use. Connect it and the PayPal button appears at checkout on top of your card field, so customers can pay either way. PayPal pays straight into your own PayPal account.

Card payments are part of every plan, so there is no upgrade needed to connect PayPal.

Connect PayPal

  1. Open Integrations from the admin sidebar.
  2. In the Payment provider section, find the PayPal card and press Connect PayPal.
  3. MenuDock sends you to PayPal's onboarding through the PayPal Commerce Platform. This takes a few minutes. We never see your PayPal login.
  4. PayPal returns you to the Integrations page and the card shows its status.

The PayPal card in the Integrations page before connecting, showing the Not connected status badge and the Connect PayPal button.

If you run more than one branch, set the location switcher to the branch you want before pressing Connect.

Reading the status

The badge on the PayPal card tells you where you stand:

  • Not connected — no PayPal account is linked yet. Press Connect PayPal to start.
  • Pending verification — your PayPal account is linked but cannot receive payments yet. Complete any outstanding steps in your PayPal dashboard, then press Refresh status.
  • Active — PayPal is linked and ready, so the PayPal button shows at your checkout.

Unlike Stripe and Square, PayPal has no "active versus inactive" switch to manage. It runs independently of your card provider: once it is connected and able to receive payments, the button is live. There is no need to choose between PayPal and your card provider, since they work together.

Other controls

  • Refresh status re-checks with PayPal and updates the badge.
  • Disconnect clears the link and hides PayPal from your checkout until you reconnect.

Once connected, the card shows your PayPal Merchant ID.

If PayPal stays at Pending verification, the outstanding step is usually in your PayPal dashboard rather than in MenuDock, so check there first and then press Refresh status. Still stuck? Email support@menudock.co.uk with your store name and we'll help.
