To take money for orders, you connect a payment provider. MenuDock supports three: Stripe, Square and PayPal. This article explains what each one does, where your money goes, and how to choose. For the step-by-step connect walkthrough, see Start taking payments.
Where the money goes
Whichever provider you pick, customers pay it directly and it pays you. Money from your orders does not pass through MenuDock. Stripe pays out to your bank account, Square pays out to your Square balance, and PayPal pays into your PayPal account. You manage payouts, disputes and statements in that provider's own dashboard, not in MenuDock.
What each provider does
| Provider | Takes card payments | Pays out to | Apple Pay / Google Pay |
|---|---|---|---|
| Stripe | Yes | Your bank account | Yes (Pro and Business) |
| Square | Yes | Your Square balance | Yes (Pro and Business) |
| PayPal | Yes, plus the PayPal button | Your PayPal account | No |
Stripe and Square are your two options for the card field at checkout. You connect one and it becomes your active card provider. PayPal sits alongside whichever card provider you use: connect it and the PayPal button appears at checkout on top of card payments, so you can offer both.
Picking one
Card payments are part of every plan, so the usual deciding factor is what you already run:
- If you use a Square till in the shop, connect Square so your online and in-person takings land in the same place.
- If you already lean on PayPal, connect it for the PayPal button. You will still want Stripe or Square for the card field.
- Otherwise Stripe is a sound default. It is quick to set up and handles wallets out of the box.
You are not locked in. You can connect more than one and leave them all linked. Whichever card provider you connected or activated last is the active one, and switching between Stripe and Square is a single click on the Use Stripe or Use Square button.
Where to connect
Open Integrations from the admin sidebar. The first section, Payment provider, holds a card for each of Stripe, Square and PayPal, each showing its current status and a connect button.

If you run more than one branch, payment credentials are held per location. Switch to the branch you want using the location switcher before you connect, so the provider links to the right one.
A note on wallets
Apple Pay and Google Pay ride on top of your card provider rather than being a separate connection. They are available on the Pro and Business plans, and they register against your storefront domain. See Apple Pay and Google Pay for how that works.
