Set up and verify Stripe

Connect Stripe so customers can pay by card, with funds paid straight to your own Stripe account.

Published June 2, 2026

Stripe is one of two card providers you can use with MenuDock (the other is Square). Connecting it lets customers pay by card at checkout, with the money paid straight into your own Stripe account. This article covers connecting Stripe, what the verification step means, and how to read the status on its card.

Card payments are part of every plan, so there is no upgrade needed to connect Stripe.

Connect Stripe

  1. Open Integrations from the admin sidebar.
  2. In the Payment provider section, find the Stripe card and press Connect Stripe.
  3. MenuDock sends you to Stripe's own onboarding to collect your business and bank details. This usually takes a few minutes. We never see your bank details or your Stripe login; MenuDock stores an encrypted token and nothing more.
  4. When you finish, Stripe returns you to the Integrations page and the card refreshes its status.

If you run more than one branch, set the location switcher to the branch you want before pressing Connect. Each branch has its own Stripe account.

Reading the status

The badge on the Stripe card tells you where you stand:

  • Not connected — no Stripe account is linked yet. Press Connect Stripe to start.
  • Onboarding incomplete — you started onboarding but didn't finish. Press Continue onboarding to pick up where you left off.
  • Pending verification — you submitted your details and Stripe is checking them. You cannot take charges yet.
  • Connected — Stripe is verified and ready, but another provider is currently active.
  • Active — Stripe is verified and is the provider taking your card payments.

Verification

Stripe verifies your details before it lets you take live charges, so the card may sit at Pending verification for a short while after onboarding. The card shows "Stripe is still reviewing your information" when you return. Use Refresh status to re-check once you've submitted everything, and Continue onboarding if Stripe still wants more from you. Verification usually clears in a few minutes.

Once Stripe clears you, charges become enabled and the card moves to Connected or Active.

Making Stripe the active provider

You can have both Stripe and Square connected at once, but only one takes card payments at a time. If Stripe is verified but not the active one, its card shows a Use Stripe button. Press it to switch. MenuDock warns you first that card payments through the other provider will stop until you switch back.

When you connect Stripe and finish onboarding from scratch, MenuDock makes it active for you, on the basis that connecting it is the same as choosing it.

Other controls

  • Refresh status re-checks with Stripe and updates the badge.
  • Disconnect clears the link. Card payments via Stripe are hidden from your checkout until you reconnect. Your Stripe account itself is not deleted, so you can reconnect later.

The card shows your Stripe Account ID once connected, which is handy if you need to reference it when contacting Stripe.
